My advice is to go to the ubuntu home page www.ubuntu.com and read about downloading and installing linux. Remember that linux is not windows and will not work or act as windows does. Just go slow and have fun.

Linux since 1995, Ubuntu since 2006
Hi, if you already have ubuntu installed here are some guides for 11.04, but it is hard to make recommendations without enough information from you on what version of ubuntu you are using and if it is downloaded and installed yet.

Hi zircon_fox and welcome. You have a couple of great post to your question from fantastic people. I was new to this myself and took it upon myself to learn and still had to ask for help here and there. I bought myself a USB HD so I could do a full HD backup with Clonezilla so I can play without loosing all my stuff.
zircon_fox,
Welcome aboard!
Here are some resources for you:
This should help familiarize you with Ubuntu: https://ubuntugenius.wordpress.com/f...p-for-newbies/
Ubuntu Manual-10.10:http://ubuntu-manual.org/ This is for 10.10, but there is a lot of information relevant to 11.04 in it.
Also, I would suggest this sticky by ugm6hr: http://ubuntuforums.org/s howthread.php?t=801404 . The links to Psychocats Ubuntu Guide: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/ and Free Ubuntu Pocket Guide by Keir Thomas: http://www.ubuntupocketguide.com/index_main.html may be of particular note, but the entire sticky is full of a lot of good information.
