In some respects, you have to applaud Microsoft for trying something different!

A big difference in my mind between Windows 1 and Windows 8 is DRM. Windows began to be significantly infected with DRM, 15 years after the release of Windows 1, in 2000. Between 1985 and 2000 one could very effectively avoid DRM by purchasing Microsoft products.
DRM did exist back in 1985. It was called "copy protection" back then and consisted among other things of deliberately creating bad sectors on 5.25in floppies. Something I always keep in mind when I hear the term "Defective by Design".
Microsoft was a very different company back then in more ways than one.
earlier it was on a workstation and now on a tablet

Um... how about no. Windows 8 most certainly does have resizeable windows, both in desktop mode and in metro. Want proof?
