    You can try:

    sudo /etc/init.d/hplip restart
    sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart

disconnect the printer, reconnect, then run:

    sudo hp-setup

    hp-setup 'should' detect the printer..

I did those and got this:

    Code:
    nda@mesh:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/hplip restart
    Password:
    Stopping hpiod: [ OK ]

I also got the 'No devices found' message when I asked the device manager to connect to a parallel port.

Are these what you're looking for kalosaurusrex?

    Code:
    nda@mesh:~$ lsmod | grep ppdev
    ppdev 10052 0
    parport 39560 3 ppdev,lp,parport_pc

I can use my hp psc 1210 all-in-one printer to print from any program, as well as scan from xsane with no problems, and yet the hplip toolbox says no device found. It also gives me NO option to set up a device.

Here is the output from you last few suggestions:

    steven8@steven8-desktop:~$ /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
    direct hp:/usb/psc_1200_series?serial=MY3CBG81S25H "HP psc_1200_series" "hp:/usb/psc_1200_series?serial=MY3CBG81S25H"
    steven8@steven8-desktop:~$ hp-toolbox

I too would like to use the hplip toolbox, but cannot access it.

Re: HOWTO: Install HP Printers for Beginners

I just ran hplip and got my printer working fine though it created a locked folder on my desktop named hplip-1.7.1, is it possible to move this to another directory?

Re: HOWTO: Install HP Printers for Beginners

The HPLIP directory should not be locked unless you ran it as root.

Regardless, do chmod 777 hplip-1.7.1 and then rm -rf hplip-1.7.1 or move it to a location of your choice. but you can just delete the directory once the install is completed.

Re: HOWTO: Install HP Printers for Beginners

    steven8:

try removing the printers and re-running hp-setup. You can remove the printers from http://localhost:631.

Or you can try re-running hp-setup.

    sudo hp-setup

    Hope this helps.
