GNOME 3 and DOCKS

I have been playing with Cairo Dock and find it has limited functions in gnome3.

Im going to try AWN next and was wondering if anyone else knows of a good dock for gnome3.

You could try DockBarX.

dockbarx (you start it with the command dockx) or docky are both good docks for Gnome Shell.

I wonder when dockz will come out

Thanks for the replies and I will be trying those next.

Im finding AWN not to be 100%, but usable.

Also I do not have gnome shell installed and running in fallback mode.

DockBarX also works very nicely as an applet for AWN - it's a very versatile dock, but housing it in an AWN panel gives you theming options and improves the hide feature's transition effects. However, DockBarX is written for Compiz, so its window previews and "peek" and "Exposé" effects won't work under Clutter (although they're all optional features not enabled by default to begin with.)

Edit: Then again, if you're using fallback mode with Compiz, that's not an issue.

Since I do not run compiz or shell, Dockx will not work for me and Docky has limited function in gnome3.

I loaded lxpanel and playing with it, I got this (the black panel) and think this is what I need. With this panel I should be able to make 11.10 look just like 10.04...

For the majority of docks you're going to need a compositing window manager. Otherwise their functionality will be very limited. I highly recommend Docky as far as actual docks go. I've used them all and Docky is by far the quickest and easiest to configure and adjust to.
