Seeking PDF editor or tagger recommendations

    Hello,

I need a program that will allow me to write things on PDFs. I do not have to be able to print them or send them to others. A text-writing tool and a pencil/paintbrush to scribble is all I need. Also need the ability to zoom and rotate the view 90 degrees counterclockwise.

I have tried pdfedit, but it crashes too much.
I have tried okular, which works OK, but the text only appears inside largish yellow boxes, and never quite where you want them. Okular's pencil/paintbrush tools are too artistic for me--there are shapes and fuzzy lines, but no plain old regular line.

    Anyone have recommendations?

I use regular Ubuntu with classic interface.

(I'd be using this to mark up PDF musical scores: writing fingerings, circling things, etc.)

You can open a pdf with gimp.
It will import the pages as layers and you will be able to edit them as much as you like.
