Well done and about time too......

Looking forward to a less cluttered and more coherent 'New Posts" screen.

Thank you to bapoumba and co.

Re: Accounts <50 posts permissions changes : dealing with spam.

I thought about mass PMing or mass emailing all the ones concerned. That is, as of now, 1,401,007 users. Well, we are fighting spam, not creating some
A lot of these accounts are inactive, I know, we have no real way to sort them out. We still have 130,839 users with at least one post and less than 50 who logged in the last 6 months..

So we decided to do it differently. Short notice and go with it over a week-end when people have more time to follow up.
The move has been prepared over the last month however, due to the way vB handles its default usergroups. But that is another story.

We are quite sorry to be restrictive and less welcoming to new users. We waited for a very long time (year) before deciding how we prefer handling spam. It is a balance between annoying real users and protecting the forums and the time Staff spends here.

    A question for the admins:

Are you happy with us reporting spam and other things? Or do you get too many reports already?

I try to report spam when I see it, but I have no idea if I do good with it.

Yes, please report spam. Staff have they eyes opened but cannot see everywhere
We prefer multiple reports than none. Thanks much!

For the "other things", please use your best judgement.

They did it the old way, load a post with text and links.

We are talking about profile spam here, spam links and info in the account profile fields. Sneaky.

Yeah, spam in post usually do not live very long here. Some Staff members wrote browser userscipts to automate most of the actions needed to ban an account and remove the posts, so this spam is not _that_ of an issue. It is annoying but we have tools and reports to help us.
Profile spam needs we look at profiles, which cannot be automated. What a pain. I remember spending evenings just doing this.

Now new users open threads about not being able to....
    Maybe you should add:*

NewUserX, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account has less than 50 posts,*
your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page,
Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
