+1. What may seem solved to an outsider may not appear that way to the OP.

I always ask OP to mark thread as solved.50% do so,the rest disappears.
From time to time I clean up my subscribed threads, but I don't like to unsubscribe if thread is not marked as solved, although it technically is.
I am talking about threads where you are involved giving the solution, not
    an "outsider"...

Sorry, I used the wrong word ("outsider"). Even when I supply the answer, I can't know it's solved unless the OP says so.

Maybe we could have a "Report post solved" -- to be used when the OP says that it is solved but has not marked it thus; a moderator could then mark it solved.

Being in a thread where you are offering assistance still does not qualiy you to judge the OP issue as solved unless they have explicitly said so in which case then yeah maybe, but still the OP can come back later and say...wait that didnt work after all or it caused this to happen.

And being involved in a thread does not mean your assistance was the solution to the problem. As far as i know there is no limit to thread subscriptions, so if it is posted in it will pop to the top of list, if not then it just ends up dead at the bottom of the list.

Well, mods had to "trust" a member for a "license to solve" somehow,
so what else should be measured than your former behavior/contribution in the forum?

..then it is mostly a new topic for a new thread.
Also "solved" does not mean "closed"....

Yeah thats a good idea actually, if we were in a thread and there has been no come back from the OP for a while we could report it as solved and then if the MODS deem it so they can be responsible for it and take the flack from the OP instead of us

What else ? nothing as i dont think another member should have the facility to judge anothers issue as solved. Well actually MOD or Admin status as that is what that staus is for amongst other things

and no solved does not mean closed, it means that the issue is solved when we dont actually know that it is.

This is of course IMO thinking about if someone else judged my issue as solved and how i would feel.

    Ah!
    That's what I mean,OP says in thread's last post:
Problem solved! But doesn't mark thread as solved...

being in a thread trying to assist does not qualify anyone, and no one but the person with the issue is qualified to say if it is solved.

Can a doctor tell you the surgery worked and no need for further treatment if you remain in pain with the same issues you had prior to surgery ? NO the PhD does not qualify the Doctor to say your cured, it qualifies them to assist with the medical issue and thats all !
