Hmm, may be we can reconsider. It's late here, I need an alert mind to think about this and most of all how it can be abused

I just want to clarify that I didn't imply other people should be able to. I just wish users were encouraged to mark their threads as solved, and to have some system of showing what posts were most helpful.

    Ah okay.
Thanking posts (not members) is on our todo list.

4 out of 5 of my beans are from reporting spam and misplaced threads.

3 of those were done before I received my activation email.

I think this limit was a great idea.

Wait...this is a good idea.I don't know how many times I thought it would be great to mark threads as solved.
Wouldn't it be possible to give old,well-known members the
    "license to solve(d)" ?

I see the benefits. I'm trying to see if and how it could be abused along with other consequences.
For some users, their accounts and threads are very personal, an extension or representation of themselves even though all of the stuff here are belong to the owner of the database.

For now, only you and Staff can modify your thread title. Only you and admins have access to your account.

Maybe a thing like "x out of y users found this thread/post helpful"?

I don't know what would be best, if it's on thread level, it could be shown in the searches and forum contents. This could replace the "mark as solved" thing. On post level, one could mark a particular helpful post, but since it can't be seen in a thread list, it can't replace the "mark as solved".

The "solved" prefix is shown in google search results, which really helps when searching for solutions.

Length of membership or well known does not qualify someone to mark someone elses problem as solved. I always ask the OP mark as solved if they deem so, it stays unsolved but then a week later they come back with....wait it didnt work, or since i did x then y has started to happen etc. I can imagine a few people who post here, who maybe only get on once a week or so to be a little offended that another member marked there problem as solved even more so when it wasnt.

If we do not have access to the problem then we cant deem it as a successful solution IMO.

I agree with the thanks process for a post and maybe some way of the OP being able to mark a given post as the solutuion they used and it worked, but the overall thread being solved i believe should stay with the Mods and OP.
