My joy is much more robust than that.

Of course there is something in what you say. But with every new release since 9.04 I have tried the live disk to see how things would go ... and no release since then gives me reliable (or any) wireless. Having spent many hours trying to get newer releases working, I have settled for 9.04 and the pleasure of actually having a usable machine!

I was blissfully unaware of Xubuntu, however. I'll certainly give it a look -- thanks.

And if anyone would like to make a donation so I can finally retire this antique Toshiba laptop ... PM me!

If you post the full specifications of your old laptop I'm sure someone here could get your wireless working on Lucid 10.04. Jaunty is dead! Your laptop is not.

If people choose to run old versions of Ubuntu, instead of badgering them to update even when they tell the reasons why they can't, maybe you should actually try to provide the information they're looking for.

Here is a page with old stable releases which work on older versions of ubuntu:

    http://linuxfreedom.com/hacktolive/r...chrome-stable/

    and here

    http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/pm/gooagle-chrome-stable

Give people the information they are looking for rather than question their reasoning why.

Often people don't know what they are looking for until questioned.

Closing the thread, as it concerns an obsolete version of Ubuntu.
