    Ubuntu Car PC

Hi all. I'm in the process of building a Linux based car PC.

I spent too much time playing with MeeGo only to be incredibly disappointed.

Now I'm back to square one and I intend to run Ubuntu. My question to all of you is this:

How can I maximize the usability of Ubuntu via touchscreen?

The main functionality I'm looking for is media playback, volume control, and possibly navigation. I need to do all of that via a touchscreen, preferably without using gestures.

    Any recommendations out there?

That's a piece of hardware, and it runs an out of the box copy of Ubuntu. I already have all of the hardware I need.

I'm trying to get advice or recommendations on making the software more usable in this environment.

    No, no it doesn't.

This is about Ubuntu, not Android.

Well there's one thing i remember when they had managed to install ubuntu on touch smartphones, touch sucked and probably still does. you need something designed for touch features not desktops. good luck

    What version?

    11.x or 10.x?

    Cool.

Unity runs on the "search" paradigm (Or so I've been told.) so some type of keyboard input will be necessary for the best experience.

    OR:

Some kind of "pop up" virtual keyboard thats there when you need it.

    It's not really a tablet/etc interface.

Well, I'll have a keyboard and trackpad for emergencies. I figure Unity is already laid out pretty well for touch use, the main thing is putting my most used icons on the toolbar and getting those applications to maximize on launch.

I'm also thinking it would be nice if the toolbar up top were a little taller for my fat fingers...
