You might want to switch to vmware server. It's now included in the feisty repository so should be an easy switch.

My computer crashed and i just got it back so I reinstalled dapper and am now again trying to isntall vmware server, everything went fine, except after the install completed i tried to run it and it responded with "cannot launch menu item" Details: failed to execute child process "vmware" (no such file or directory)

    Terminal output:

    "chris@voyager:~$ sudo vmware
    sudo: vmware: command not found
    chris@voyager:~$ vmware
    bash: vmware: command not found"

    um help.

    Try

    Code:
    sudo /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl
    Veloce

Re: HowTo: Windows (XP) on Ubuntu with VMWare Server

    chris@voyager:~$ sudo /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl
    Password:
    sudo: /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl: command not found

i'm really confused. The installer said everything went fine, and an icon appears for vmware server in the applications>>system tools menu, and I know where I installed the files (/home/chris/vmware) but none of these commands are working.

Your freedom is worth more than you think. Take advantage of it while you can.

Re: HowTo: Windows (XP) on Ubuntu with VMWare Server

Thanks for the walkthrough, but I cannot get mine to install. I alsways get this message:

Unable to get the access rights of source file "./vmware-vix/bin".

    Execution aborted.
I have made sure I have access to that folder & the files in it, but nothing seems to work.
Now I am pretty much a n00b when it comes to Linux in general, I only know what a friend has been telling me over the last couple of weeks, so I guess it could be something stupid!

Many thanks in advance for any help though.

Re: HowTo: Windows (XP) on Ubuntu with VMWare Server

well I tried reinstalling and accepted all default options

    --start output--
    Starting VMware services:
    Virtual machine monitor done
    Virtual ethernet done
    Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 done
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet1 (background) done
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet8 (background) done
    NAT service on /dev/vmnet8 done

The configuration of VMware Server 1.0.3 build-44356 for Linux for this running
    kernel completed successfully.
    --end output--

But it gives me the same errors. what in the world is going on!?
