Make sure to do step #9, otherwise it might not work.
How, exactly? ..a bit confused here

Do I need to edit the registry values on my XP installation (guest), or some configuration on my VMWare installation...?

    Thanks in advantage!

    Great howto, worked seamlessly.

One question for anyone, since I've never used this amazing program before. Is there a way to move files in between your desktop and the virtual machine?

    @pollock.tar.gz

The error message complains about you using gcc 4 while the kernel is gcc 3.4. Or maybe the other way, it's not very clear.
If you are on breezy, make sure you execute Code:
    Code:
    export CC=/usr/bin/gcc-3.4

before running the vmware config. If it still not works try
    Code:
    export CC=/usr/bin/gcc-4
Hope this is going to help you.

    edit:
Thanks to JONTXO for the help on file sharing . It works!
"to share files from vmware windows with linux you only have to set up shared folders on windows. Then from nautilus go to archive -> connect with server.

to share folders from linux with vmware windows you have to right click on a folder and select share folder with smb. In general configuration of the files shared with windows select the name you want for you computer but for the workgroup put MSHOME, and select not to use a wins server.
then you have to add an user to samba, with the command:
    sudo smbpasswd -a user_name
After that in windows go to net folders and there you will see on the microsoft windows net the workgroup of the folders you have shared."
