Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop A660 and I have a dual boot: Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04.
Both in windows and in Ubuntu I face the same problem: the system easily overheats and shuts down suddenly, without any warning message.
I installed ‘PSensors’ in Ubuntu and I checked the system temperature. The unit named ‘GPU’ reaches 85°C when using Skype or other heavy applications, then the fan mysteriously stops and the system shuts down after 10 seconds.
I read that it can come from the video driver, but I am sure that the proprietary video driver is installed. When I check it says ‘Driver installed but not in use’.
Last time it happened, I was importing my pictures from the ‘Pictures’ folder to the preinstalled Pictures Viewer of Ubuntu 11.04. The system stopped suddenly and now the Pictures Viewer refuses to start again.
Any suggestion to help my laptop to better manage its temperature?
And in case…how to I start the Pictures Viewer again?
Thank you!
