I asked the web shop staff of two different shops. They didn't know. I asked them to ask their supplier, and they replied they probably don't know either. I made a technical inquiry to the ASUS support, and they just said ask the retailer. Something funny with that SSD drive!

That doesn't help me in getting a new laptop with an SSD drive. (No, putting one there myself is not an option since it will void the warranty).

apparently replacing the ssd doesn't void the warranty. But i'd confirm that with asus

That's exactly what I did, and the reply was that it indeed does void warranty. Since it's a slim model, the storage device is placed in a quite inconvenient place. It's one of those "detach the whole upper part including keyboard and what not" procedures.

Hmm, ******. From what I have read about replacing the u36sd hard drive and the u36jc hard drive is that you will probably have to put the original back in for warranty work but there is no warranty is void stickers or anything that you have to tear.

My dell on the other hand has removing the CD tray as a warranty sanctioned replacement. It involves taking the screen off and the keyboard off. But dell made nice instructions for it and its actually really easy. Its just a some dis-assembly required project.

    ...
So the warranty is voided if you change the storage device, except there is no way of telling if I put back the original one after it broke?

Anyway, what the staff of the webshop and the ASUS support person said, I cannot change the storage device.

    Re: ASUS u36sd support thread

I have the following issues with my u33jc.

    1) i only can see a GPU with LSPCI . I can change BIOS value to jump from nvidia to intel card without problem but visibility with both cards is impossible. I guess this is the reason bumblebee project does not work for me.
Thats normal. It is needed a bios update in order to make work bumblebee.????
    2) HDMI output does not work with Intel card. If i change bios to boot up with nvidia (nouveau driver) then output works but HDMI sound output does not work. Some know a workaround for this problem????.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm also interested in having HDMI output. With any one of the cards.
