regarding mic

i normally hav a lot of use of mic as i use skype and gmail to make audio calls to my friends...windows automatically detects the mic and uses it...now i've switched to ubuntu..and dont want to use windows again...but mic is not working in ubuntu...i've no idea about how to install drivers in ubuntu...please help me so that i can use mic...

Go to System > Preferences > Sound (or click on the speaker icon on the panel and select Sound Preferences). Then select the Input Tab. Make sure the input isn't muted and move the slider to a higher volume as needed.
