    Question Ubuntu vs. Kubuntu

    Could someone please explain to a total newbie like me what is the main differences between Ubuntu and Kubuntu? That would be a huge help!

    Ubuntu (this is a guide to Unity, Ubuntu's interface.)

    Kubuntu (this is Kubuntu's website. It explains a lot.)

    You might also want to check out KDE.org (KDE is what Kubuntu uses.)

    There's lots of other spin-offs too, btw. Xu- U- and Ku- buntu are just the ones you hear about most.

    i had a problem when i downloaded kubuntu and ran an md5sum it said it couldnt find the file

    I was about to ask that too. Best way to do it, I think is to get VirtualBox, run Kubuntu in there, decide whether you like it, then install on the cd, as it will have downloaded OK if it installed.

    Kubuntu's not for old or lightweight systems, though. It ran slowly on a 4gb laptop.

    It seems that if you leave the 'www.' off, vBulletin thinks what you're linking to is part of the UF.

    thanks people. i already run an additional ubuntu os on a virtual machine to test new programs ( the only problem is it does not run unity) so i will try that with kubuntu. Thanks!!
