    please help: themes

    Hi guys/gals,

I recently decided to hop back onto the Ubuntu band wagon after a year or so of being away from it, I'm still a super noob to this stuff, but I joined a facebook group and someone posted a picture I am quite interested in.

I was cruising through some photos on facebook and I found someone posted a screen shot of their desktop:

I was wondering how I get my (default) Ubuntu to look like this, and function properly with the conky/Lua stuff, when I asked the gentlemen what he was using he had mention AWN, Conky/Lua (which I know is for the computer monitoring/weather) as well as Awoken Icon set.

The only thing I got to work for me so far was the Awoken Icon set, I am running 11.04 currently and have Unity enabled, I really am not a fan of the sidebar thing, and I would like to get back to the way this guy from facebook had his (top and bottom menu bars more like windows), any time I tried to disable unity, it causes my whole desktop to crash, I get no icons, menus, contextual menus...nothing...I had to reinstall the first time to fix it -__-'

Any way, I guess what I'm looking for is anyone who is willing/knows how to help me make my Ubuntu experience more enjoyable, in a very similar manor to this fellow from facebook.

Here is what I am at right now, just to give an idea.

If you don't want to use Unity log out and login to Classic Gnome .

That fixes the first problem, thank you very much, now I guess my next question would be, how do I change the opacity of my windows, and add the widgets conky + lua?

You will need to install a few things from the software center . Awn(dock) and Compiz CCSM to get your panels semi transparent .

See what I wrote about getting started with Conky at the link , but don't install the theme at the end . There are many lua configurations for Conky , so you will have to see the instructions for setting that one up .

Thanks guys, I got the Conky working now, everything except my network usage. Now for AWN.
