Hello all, i have recently started trying to learn the gimp, and was wondering if there is an erase to transparency tool? i cant help but think how useful it would be. if not, is there a way i can request said tool?

can you elaborate on what exactly you mean by "erase to transparency" tool'?
Chances are good.. the ability to do whatever you're thinking is probably there,
in one form or another.
Just a little confused by the term "erase to transparency".
well you know you can have a new transparent layer, where it doesn't effect other images or what naught. i want to be able to erase some bits so that its just transparent. if you know what im trying to say? o.O
lol, seems thats exactly what the erase tool does :s
epic fail XD
thanks anyways![]()
okay no, it doesn't work on a particular layer it earses through all layers, **** >.<
You need to make a 'selection' of the area you want transparent, 'Select, Invert' then use the 'Layer, Mask, Mask to Selection'
