Lightbulb To do or not to do..?

    I own a MacBook Pro 8,1

I am a massive ubuntu fan - been using it for years. I also program/develop using ubuntu.

I am a little disappointed that the mac osx shell commands are different to linux commands e.g. sudo apt-get install isn't there in mac

I am contemplating whether to get rid of mac osx and install natty 11.04 onto my mac (no dual boot).

I heard wifi is now supported with a fix here http://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2011/06/in...ok-pro-81.html

What are your opinions, do I go ahead and switch my mac to ubuntu?

    thanks for your help!

its your computer, do what you will.

If you don't like OSX, why not sell the macbook and buy a pc notebook with great ubuntu compatibility. Chances are you'll get what you want and walk away with money in your pocket.

But, see my first sentence for my general opinion

    DON'T DO IT!!

You need to keep an OSX partition to be able to install any firmware updates that Apple might release. You can do a minimal install ('customise' during install and de-select all the language and printer options etc.)

If you want a pure Ubuntu machine sell the mac and go for a PC with intel graphics. I did

Personally I love ubuntu on macbooks, a great operating system on a sexy machine. A dual boot is better though;even if you hate/won't use OS X, sometimes you need it to get apple software updates.
