Copying files to Ubuntu live CD

Hi, I've been using Ubuntu Customization Kit to edit Edubuntu 10.10.
    So far, so good.
But there are two things I need to do that I haven't been able to figure out:

    1) I want to install a custom desktop. How do I copy a custom png file to the Live DVD and set it as the default?
    2) More importantly, I have the full Okawix Wikipedia downloaded. I want to add it to the Live DVD (there should be room) and set a desktop icon for the app. I can't figure out how to accomplish this.

When I do a regular mount of the Live CD I don't see the standard file setup (no /etc, /home...).
However, when I open it with UCK I see the directories, but have no way of physically copying files to the image.
I'm not a newbie to Uniix, but I am a newbie to UCK.

I'm in the Peace Corps and want these kids to have access to all these learning games and Wikipedia, without having internet access.
    Any help is appreciated.

    hi midtowng...welcome to the forum

it is not possibly to modify the live cd in the way you are trying, but you can build one

further assistance available, just post back

Re: Copying files to Ubuntu live CD

Would Remastersys be of any help?
"Remastersys is a tool that can be used to do 2 things with an existing Debian, Ubuntu or derivative installation.

    1. It can make a full system backup including personal data to a live cd or dvd that you can use anywhere and install.
    2. It can make a distributable copy you can share with friends. This will not have any of your personal user data in it."

Cool Re: Copying files to Ubuntu live CD

OK. I didn't know it was impossible using UCK. That changes things.
Remastersys was already my fall-back plan. I guess that is the way I'll need to go. Thanks for the info.

you know, i have cheated in the past. used clonezilla to just clone my system and install on another. so far (only three other boxes) it worked and its a big time saver.
