    Flickering Screen - Ubuntu 10.04

So from doing some googling I've found that my problem is not a terribly uncommon problem, but being a total computer moron I have no idea which fix is right for my computer ...

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and my screen flickers every once in a while. The flickering is horizontal multi colored lines across the lower half of the screen, and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to why or when it happens. The lines occasionally freeze on the screen until I do something else.

From what I've read, it sounds like the default video driver is too advanced for my old computer and there is a simple fix if I uninstall that driver and replace it with the and older one. However, I have no idea how to figure out which driver I need. I'm a little horrified of just guessing, especially since I'm not 100% sure the driver is in fact the problem.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1545, and I bought it I think 3 years ago? And of course I have no record of what my video card specs are ...
