    Re: Installing Minecraft in Ubuntu

    Hi,

    its actually real easy!!!!!

I tried to follow the instructions above, i downloaded the .jar and .svg files. i put them in a clean folder.

I got java 7 from ubuntu software centre.

i tried to do the bit with the terminal but didnt know how to direct it to my new directory as I know jack **** about linux (i just know how much I hate windows am an really grateful for the alternative!) so i just went to the .jar file, right click, select properties, check the 'make executable' box, the open the .jar using java and thats it!

    real easy!

im running ubuntu 12.04 by the way

    enjoy!

    This will make it run-able

    Re: Installing Minecraft in Ubuntu

I'm having issues... I ran through all the steps but nothing happens when I run it... absolutely nothing...
I expect it was an issue with the root command... I entered the text correctly but also nothing happened. What should be the text in the terminal post "chmod..."

    Re: Installing Minecraft in Ubuntu

I was using Open JDK 6 and getting the same error as the OP. I've been trying all day to get minecraft working for my son, but after entering the login and password, it would crash and give me a crash report that cited lwgjl as the problem. I installed Oracle 7 as recommended above, and now all I get after login is a black screen. I'm running ubuntu 12.04, and I'm out of ideas. Please help!
