    Re: MacBookAir4,1 & MacBookAir4,2 (MBA 2011) support

Really really happy about my Ubuntu Macbook Air setup, except for one thing... every time my left fingers touch the lower part of the touchpad, tracking of my right hand (cursor navigation) halts - very annoying compared to how it behaves on OSX.

Any suggestions around this problem using the "xf86-input-mtrack" driver? I would be happy with only the physical button, lowering the sensitivity of the pad, disable tracking on the lower part... or a combination hereof. I can't imagine being the only one with this "overly sensitive" trackpad.

I'm waiting for my Macbook Air 13" to arrive. Is it rude to ask for a summary of this thread?

Things should be much better for linux on sandy bridge and macbook air-2011 now than it was half a year ago. The recent 3.2 kernel fixes further bugs with graphics, says phoronix: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...tem&px=MTAxNTQ

Maybe the wiki page is a good summary, in that case, looks complicated!

    Re: MacBookAir4,1 & MacBookAir4,2 (MBA 2011) support

Has anyone been able to get a single-boot system setup using an EFI based method as opposed to the "BIOS compatibility" method that is outlined here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MactelSupportTeam/AppleIntelInstallation)? I have been having no luck getting this working. The archlinux macbook wiki page gives me some hope that this is possible in Ubuntu, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet. Any tips would be appreciated!

There's a comparatively simple Howto for Arch here: http://d.goodlad.net/articles/arch_linux_on_mba_42/ has anyone tried something similar for Ubuntu (use only GPT, install grub manually)?

Woaw ! 12.04 daily build is amazing, everything works outofbox (keyboard backligt, suspend, screen resolution, screen backlight ...).

Since Kernel 3.2.0, all has been fixed. So I installed 11.04, then downloaded all 64bits kernel here : http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.2-precise/

    linux-headers-3.2.0-030200-generic_3.2.0-030200.201201042035_amd64.deb
    linux-headers-3.2.0-030200_3.2.0-030200.201201042035_all.deb
    linux-image-3.2.0-030200-generic_3.2.0-030200.201201042035_amd64.deb
    in a terminal , install them :

    sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Reboot, it works without any patch or tricks !

But fan speed is very high (in all conf), strange .... any help ?

    NOTE :

WiFi works before 3.2.0 (and nomodeset or patch applied) under 11.04
    WiFi doesn't works since 3.2.0 under 11.04
WiFi works since 3.2.0 under 12.04

    Okay, a couple things:

    1) There are so many different "threads" running through this thread that I wonder if the MBA doesn't deserve its own forum. Any thoughts about that?

    2) I'm experiencing a problem with Unity that seems to be related to websites using flash. Occasionally (seemingly randomly), Unity crashes when I open a website with flash. The screen goes blank and then I'm back at the login screen. It doesn't happen all the time--sometimes the same website will load without any trouble. And it doesn't matter which browser I'm using. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm running Oneiric on a 13" MBA. This is Unity 3D.

Regarding #1--this is the only thread I reliably check. If you want me to make something work, it will have to be posted here. Anyway, I don't think this thread is out-of-control and I think its reasonably on-topic.

Regarding #2, I haven't had this problem. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I will add tho that this sounds more like a problem with flash and/or your graphics card driver than it does with Unity.

    Re: MacBookAir4,1 & MacBookAir4,2 (MBA 2011) support

dfacto, given what you said about the graphics card driver, I wonder if the crash/logout problem is related to this message I get when running "sudo apt-get upgrade":

    tlee-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
    xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-nouveau xserver-xorg-video-radeon
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 4 not upgraded.
I haven't been able to figure out why these packages are held back and what to do about it.

I appreciate your thoughts on this.

Note: I tried "dist-upgrade," but no luck.

    Smile Re: MacBookAir4,1 & MacBookAir4,2 (MBA 2011) support

Installing ubuntu 12.04 daily build on macbook air 4 is almost out of box. (the minor issue is my backlight keyboard didn't work and the battery life is just ok)
By default, Unity use fourfinger tap to bring up Dash. However, after in gnome shell, fourfinger tap cannot bring up overview. Is there anyone know how to set fourfinger-tap equal the command key (superkey)?

    Thanks
