    Hi dfacto,

many thanks for your reply, but for me re-installing is not an option .... (unless I cannot get it working in two moths)

I'll try your hints about the fans.

On the other hand, are you able to connect an external display without any problems?

    Thanks

I don't have an adapter so I cannot test an external display.

In general I am not an advocate of re-installing as this is a Windows-type "solution." I just went this route because I wanted to test the out-of-box-ness of the latest release.

In any event, what prevents you from doing this? In my case I just rsync-ed everything to another computer, re-installed, and rsync-ed back. (Strictly speaking I didn't need to do this since I do have a separate home partition, but since I had partition-table issues the first time I was cautious...which is always recommended anyway.)

I don't want to re-install because it's my main computer, and I don't want to risk and spend the time and effort to rebuild it, call me lazy ....., re-installing is too-windows for me and there's no proof that re-installing will make it work.

I'll keep an eye on google to see if the issue gets solved sometime ....

    Thanks anyway!

    Hi again,

after today updates, I still have problems with the external monitor.

But I have good news: external monitor works as expected when booting with linux kernel 3.2.0-21 (current one, 3.2.0-22 doesn't work).

I'm still facing problems with the external monitor; with kernels 3.2.0-22 and -21, I have finally found a consistent way to have the external monitor working:

    boot without external monitor
    log into X
connect external monitor -> doesn't work

    repeat about 2/3 times:
    disconnect external monitor
    suspend
    connect external monitor
    resume

It worked for me for 3.2.0-22 and -21 kernels. Probably there's a better way, but meanwhile I'm sticking to this.

If that works then surely xrandr will do the trick.

With latest update, kernel 3.2.0-23, external monitor seems to work ok!!

Now I can recommend going to ubuntu 12.04:

    - everything seems snapier

    - ubuntu works out-of-the-box

    Happy camper now !

    Hi,

    I have a 1920x1200 (dell 24'').

But, even my earlier post, I still have some problems with the external monitor, which the only way I found to have it solved is to go through a supend-resume cycles (normally 2) until it works.

I have found another problem: when playing a video (mp4 or avi, not flash), using the Video Player or mplayer, my computer hungs; mouse moves, but gnome is freezed, keyboard doesn't work, and the only way is to recover is power cycle the computer.

Any hints about this video issue?

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this should be here or in the mtrack thread, think it fits both...

Anyways, just installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my MBA 4,2 last night, and I cannot get the trackpad to work at all. It was working with basic function (moving around and left clicking) before I ran the post-install-oneiric.sh script, but after that it doesn't work at all.

That script was supposed to install mtrack, and it said it did it correctly, so I'm a bit stumped as to what went wrong.
