Patched hid-apple with 11" product code (I think) and also fixed key mappings so xmodmap hack is not needed. Changes in post-install-oneiric.sh as usual.

Now the keyboard brightness keys cause a pop-up but they still don't change the brightness and I don't know why.

    Thanks DanielBuus!

In the interest of screwing myself over by way of procrastination here is a better keyboard-backlight script. I tried to assign this as the default action using the keyboard settings but it isn't following the keyboard shortcut I specified (the key definitely works as the right osd notify pops-up).

I think it would be nice to use pommed but I can't patch it for the MBA4 since there is some unresolved build dependency issue.

FYI: I have been having some problems with WPA2 in Linux which seem to have been resolved by the latest Apple firmware update. As I don't know much about EFI, I'm not sure if its reasonable to assume some connection between these two issues but...*shrugs*

Thanks to dfactos great script and other replies in this thread I now have a mostly usable MBA.

One problem I'm having on this new install of Oneiric though is unity 3d segfaulting at startup. Anyone else seeing this? I'm stuck at unity-2d right now.

Also cannpt get swipe with the trackpad to work, but if I understand correctly this support only exists in unity 3d.

    Re: MacBookAir4,1 & MacBookAir4,2 (MBA 2011) support

I had this problem a week ago, assuming it happened after you upgraded packages. Sadly the only "fix" I could come up with was to reinstall. Chalk this one up to running an unstable release. Anyway everything does work for me now and should for you too.

Update: Actually as of today's update I now lost suspend and the brightness dim doesn't work. Can someone confirm this? (So that way I know it isn't the tweaks I just made to the hid-apple driver...although this really shouldn't be possible.)

Also, I'm seeing more weirdness on the wl and lib80211 drivers in dmesg and lots of drop-outs (for WPA2-enterprise). I don't have any problems with WPA2-personal (at home). I guess the firmware update really didn't have anything to do with my random, temporary improvement.

I know I asked for this already (and got it) but can someone with the 11" MBA re-send their (verbose) usb list?
    Code:
    sudo lsusb -v 2>&1|gzip -c >MBA41-lsusb.txt.gz
I'll add the bluetooth and bcm5974 (trackpad) support. You *should* have fn keys working as is. I have all the patches in place and simply need to plug-in the right values.

The sooner I get this, the sooner you get an MBA is slick as the 13"!

kiffykroker: I need to know which keyboard variant you have.

    USB_DEVICE_ID_APPLE_WELLSPRING6A_ANSI
    USB_DEVICE_ID_APPLE_WELLSPRING6A_ISO
    USB_DEVICE_ID_APPLE_WELLSPRING6A_JIS

If you are American then you probably have ANSI. JIS is Japan and ISO is everything else (I guess?) This is not something that lsusb would tell you. If you don't know, then tell me what country you live in.

Ah: read this to identify the keyboard.

ISO (Europe), JIS (Japan), and ANSI. The ANSI keyboard is a standard 101-key layout widely used in the US, North America, and many other parts of the world.

(hexadecimally speaking, I hope you're in Europe, otherwise things are annoying)

I do have the ISO (Europe) keyboard format, sorry I forgot to mention that.
