Bummer...wonder what went wrong? Which install cd did you use, alpha or beta? I used beta...

Well, after a lengthy and somewhat confusing debugging session, I've found a small problem with the fix-i915 shell script.

On a fresh install of the Oneiric AMD64 daily build from 7 September, kernel 3.0.0-10-generic, I found that I was unable to boot into glorious 1440x900. I finally tracked the problem down to the newly compiled module being placed in the wrong folder, and fixed things with the following commands:
    Code:
    sudo cp /lib/modules/3.0.0-10-generic/extra/i915.ko /lib/modules/3.0.0-10-generic/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915.ko
    sudo depmod -a
    sudo update-initramfs -u
I'm not sure that the last two commands were strictly necessary, but I included them for good measure to save multiple reboots.

I think the main problem was not running apt-get distupgrade. When running nmcli I was getting errors that the command was not compatible with the backend or something to that effect.

Hmm, I may have put the fix in the wrong script, but here is a fix in a gist on github. Should it be relocated?

Please take a look; any comments welcome.

So what's the deal with the fix-i915.sh script as is? I ran it on 3.0.0-10 oneiric and had no problems. berto- do you also have this problem? I don't mind adding it to the script but I'd like to understand why the make is failing (which it shouldn't be). Perhaps the source tree is out-of-date (this seems unlikely)? Anyway I updated the fix-i915.sh with your copy line (generalized for any kernel).

jonny - thanks for posting your gptsync. Looks like you have the same problem I did. I was hoping to see a working output for reference purposes--perhaps someone running Natty can post theirs? Anyway, you can follow my earlier post to fix yours.

    I am back ...

As I told you before I have listed my MBA on eBay.... but I was not lucky enough to sell it ! the guy who won the auction DID NOT PAY for the item ! I do not know if I should say bad luck or good luck ! cause seems the graphic card driver now fixed and maybe I can hold on to my MBA.

I am going to try it out on my MBA 13.

By the way, are we able to use Compiz ? 3d also works right ?

In any case I updated the i915 fix-it script to handle the 11" MBA in addition to the 13" (kujuntuluntufurtu, I'm talking to you.)

I used this script you made for him and worked for me well ! now I have got the resolution fixed !

    WOW ... love it !

Few things not working for me :

    1. Backlit Keyboard
    2. Got the MS saying, Sorry, the program " Zeitgeist-daemon" closed unexpectedly << what ever that means lol

A matter of perspective. Perhaps it was a stroke of luck that it didn't sell.

Ubuntu on the new Macbook Air is going to be awesome, considering how much progress has been made before Oneiric stable has even been released.

For the record, I own a Macbook 5,1, a Macbook Pro 6,2 and now the Macbook Air 4,2 along with a few other laptops and netbooks. If anyone needs to sell something on Ebay, it is me.
