Question What Audio card should I get?

I want to get a new audios card that uses the PCI interface and supports 5.1 surround sound or higher, but I have no clue what one to get. Any ideas?

Re: What Audio card should I get?

It's a matter of taste really. Most important thing is to get one which is supported in alsa.

For example RME Hammerfall have a good reputation of having both excellent sound quality and decent linux suport.
EDIT: But avoid rme hdsp 9632 in particular. There's a nasty bug in the way alsa presents the card to pulseaudio.

Ok thanks I was thinking of one made by HT|Omega, Creative labs or auzentech.
