Re: Linkys AE2500 USB Adapter Not Working

It's the repo version of ndiswrapper. It installed when I installed ndisgtk.

    I thought I was using the x64 version. uname -m shows x86_64

Re: Linkys AE2500 USB Adapter Not Working

Are you certain you removed the Vista .inf file?
    Code:
    sudo ndiswrapper -e bcmwlhigh6
And then install the XP with ndisgtk. In fact, I might remove the Vista version and reboot before you continue. Check /etc/ndiswrapper/ for any remnants and delete them if found:
    Code:
    sudo rm -rf /etc/ndiswrapper/*
Then install the XP .inf and .sys files and check dmesg again.

Re: Linkys AE2500 USB Adapter Not Working

Removed the Vista inf file and rebooted.
ndisgtk fails, shell fails with the same error.

    dmesg shows
    Code:
[ 219.420011] usb 2-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
[ 219.700009] usb 2-5: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
[ 219.852147] ndiswrapper (load_wrap_driver:108): couldn't load driver bcmwlhigh5; check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'

Re: Linkys AE2500 USB Adapter Not Working

I'm tempted to go the BCM4323 (the chipset of the adapter) route and see if I have any luck.

As far as I know, ndiswrapper is the only possibility. I haven't actually seen it working yet. You could be a pioneer!

I also just picked one of these cards up. Works great when I boot into windows but dead in the water in Ubuntu.

Re: Linkys AE2500 USB Adapter Not Working

Can you show the output of:

    Code:
    cat /var/log/syslog | grep loadndisdriver
There are problems with the ndiswrapper-version 1.56 with kernel 2.6.38, you may try the patched version. You need to uninstall the old version and the config first:

    Code:
    sudo modprobe -rf ndiswrapper
    sudo apt-get remove --purge ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 ndisgtk
    sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper.conf
    sudo rm -r /etc/ndiswrapper/*
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential
    wget http://media.cdn.ubuntu-de.org/forum/attachments/3080287/ndiswrapper-1.56_patch_12.tar.gz
    tar xvf ndiswrapper-1.56_patch_12.tar.gz
    cd ndiswrapper-1.56_patch_12
    make
    sudo make install
    sudo depmod -a
    sudo update-initramfs -u
Dont install ndisgtk, this will reinstall the old version of ndiswrapper again.

Wink Re: Linkys AE2500 USB Adapter Not Working

    Hello all,
this is what "worked" for me
I inserted the Disk that came with my AE2500 adapter.
Copied the files in setup/adapter/drver/ to my desktop then
    run the following in terminal

    Code:
    $ sudo ndiswrapper -i Desktop/win7/bcmwlhigh6.inf
    that installed it fine.
Then i restarted my computer and THEN nothing is happening the blue light on the usb does not come on and i dont know what else i can try from terminal.

i tried the above instruction again and it said "driver bcmwlhigh6 is already installed ". i am not sure how i can make the driver run / or check if its running.

    Here are my comp specs
    Kernel Linux 2.6.38-8-generic(x86_64)
    Distribution : Mint 11 - OEM

    uname -r :
    Code:
    2.6.38-8-generic
    ndiswrapper -v :
    Code:
utils Version : '1.9', utils version needed by module:'1.9'
    filename: /lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic/kernel/ubuntu/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko
    version : 1.56
    vermagic: 2.6.38-8-generic SMP mo_unload modversions
i had to type this since i am using my other computer - their might be some spelling mistakes.

If someone knows how i can start this driver please let me know. it should be simple i assume.

PS: you dont need to copy the files to your desktop from the cd. I did that because i was experimenting a lot and was easier to have it at desktop. you can give the path of the inf file from the disk.

    thanks for any help
