I have tryed Pardus 2011.1 probably the best distribution if you like the KDE desktop.
Some interesting solutions to. Pisi, Comar, Kaptan etc..

I thought this post was invisible.
2011 was well received by the reviewers. Is 2011.1 as good as or better than 2011?

It are not so much difference. If you already got Pardus 2011 installed in a computer, you will get the new 2011.1 with the updates.
You could describe it as a sort of "service pack 1"

But there are improvments of course, updated KDE and Kernel version. Firefox 5 and the latest LibreOffice and stuff like that.
A more polished version with bug fixes and similar things.

And the repository are larger to. Maybe the most important thing.

I used this for a while and loved it. Lovely, polished OS. The only reason I stopped using it was a general lack of available software in their repos, but other than that well worth a try. I'm sure their software base will improve over time, and I'm optimistic for the distros future.

Did you add the German repos? Did it help at all?

I did and they were very good, but I was still lacking a few of my favourite apps. I forget now which ones were missing specifically, but it was enough that I had to switch to another distro. Like I say, it wouldn't put me off trying the OS again though. You can tell it's one of those that will gather pace over time as word gets out. It may be a slow burner, but it'll get there.

EDIT: Hmmm looking at their repo list reminds me a little. I was using 64 bit which had less packages generally than 32 bit. I was missing stuff like K9Copy, DeVeDe, some codecs, K3b, Amarok, Banshee... I think that's some of the things notable by their absence.

The first major update package will coming soon (probably in august) to version 2011.1. It will include some new programs. Like Gyache Improved:

By the way, it's very important to run a Pisi/software manager update after the installation. Many forget this. And then you only find 950 programs in the Pisi.
After the update it's around 4500 programs there (in the 32 bit version).

And another aspect are if you counting dependies (meta packages) as a program to?
Pardus often included all dependies in one application so it only be counted as one package. But other distributions have them seperated.

So that one reason to that the repositories can look small.
