Smile Which Linux Distro for Mobile Repairer ?

    Hi

One of my friends has a mobile repairing shop and he uses Windows Xp but he is always affected by viruses, i told him about linux and he wants to try it. My question is which distro would be best suited for his purposes ? with best hardware support ?

    Thanks in advance !

what kind of software is he using? if he is using windows specific software then linux is not for him.

if he is not tied to windows os then Ubutnu, Linux Mint and maybe PClinux OS have good out of the box support and easy install. crunchbang (based on debian stable) also seems to have a good hardware support.

as far as which desktop environemtn to use (KDE, GNOME, XFCE, LXDE) that depends on computer system at hand and perosnal choice.
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?
Full disk backup (newer kernel -> suitable for newer PC): Clonezilla
User friendly full disk backup: Rescuezilla

hehe actually his work is to upgrade firmwares of mobile phones and related tasks, so he has to connect many types of mobile phones to his pc through cables. If there is any linux distro which has those driver pre-installed then please tell me i would give it to him.

there are tons of drivers for all the different mobile phones.

Most of them i expect are windows based, he would probably spend as much time configuring each phone in Linux as he would repairing them.
His best bet if he wants to switch to linux is then use virtualisation to simulate a windows box with everything he needs in it.

Though he might still experience some issues if the device is not recognised in the host first of all (ie linux)
