    Boot Error

Hi guys, trying to install Ubuntu on my intel mac mini (the old sort)

However, the superdrive is broken so I have to use an external CD Drive. I put the disc in, go to boot disc in the system menu and restart with the Ubuntu CD selected. All I get on restart is the words "Boot error". Thats it.

I have tried it with a variety of different CD's and I get the same problem every time. Is this common or have I done something very stupid?

I have also tried to change boot device by holding down alt on startup but that only gives me the chance to boot off the hard drive (which is starting to do me in a bit!).

    Thanks in advance

    John.

Try a USB thumb drive instead?

Roger. Will give it a go and post back with (hopefully good) results.

    Re: Boot Error

Tried using a thumb drive and it just doesn't give me the option to select it as a boot device. I followed the instructions (to the letter!) and it copies the img file but for some reason the mac fails to see it as a bootable device!

    Much anger ensues!
