Wine will NOT work with IE9 -- period! There are add-ons for Wine (winetricks and Play on Linux) that will work with IE7 and (maybe) IE8.

Also, even if you DO get IE working under Wine, it is not exactly the same as running it in Windows. So, if you need IE because of specific features, you're probably NOT going to get it to work under Linux.

Sorry we must have posted at the same time, as you see, IE9 wont work at all in linux, perhaps if you tell us why you particularly feel IE9 is a better choice for you rather than say firefox or chromium browser and we could suggest better options for linux friendly programs
I cant think of anything IE can do that firefox doesnt already do better

what type of program is it, unless its a game then you can probably get a linux native alternative which are usually better than the windows versions

I would change the "usually" to "occasionally".

Beta software isnt for everyone, if the op chooses firefox then FF4 will do the job, is more stable and installed by default

it's not beta anymore. ff is now a "rolling release" btw
