Hey all

i've been trying to get skype inbuilt mic to work( everything else works fine) for a while and i've had 10+ different attempts to get it work,I would like to know if theres a surefire way of testing whether its a mic hardware prob(loose wire etc) or a driver problem.

Is there a way of testing this without having to fork out for a plug in mic?

I have tried all the alsa mixer option solutions and all the pulse audio solutions i've seen
on the forums here and elsewhere. All i get is static that gets softer and louder when i adjust the inbuilt mic sliders.

The next thing i tried was to see if it was the drivers that needed updating.
I have an intel 82801H(ICH8 family)HD and as far as i can see alsa doesnt have a driver update
are there any drivers that can be used if i've found out its not a hardware problem

Cheers in advance for any forthcoming help
