Or the alternate/minimal cd... also the model would be nice. Perhaps an h67? There are issues with Sandy Bridge onboard video.

I've never had any issues installing on mine. Can you explain exactly what you do and what errors you get? Also yes +1 have you trying it on a live cd?

You can try with lattest xorg drivers installing xorg-edgers ppa.
BTW I own a sandy bridge i5 and now I moved to fedora because ubuntu was useless.
