It wasn't as easy as rooting the MyTouch 3G was.

    Re: Best android phone?

I have a rooted HTC Aria (also known as the HTC Liberty or HTC Intruder; will HTC finally come up with a name?!?!) that I got in December.

Be careful with HTC. If you're going to buy an HTC phone, get a flagship, because HTC just dumps support for some of their phones. That's what happened to the Aria. I rooted because the phone is still supposed to be on 2.1 Eclair, and the only Froyo update was in Africa (hence my username).

Also, if you get an HTC phone, heed any warnings of the phone being able to break. I was happy with my Aria until I dropped it on a corner. Then part of the edge broke and fell off.

How do you like that phone? I've been thinking about getting one since the phone I've got now is getting on my nerves.

That being said, I did hear that Android 2.2 has some security flaws, but I don't know how bad of a flaw it is.

    This.

"Best Android Phone" is like asking "Best Computer" (assuming they're all running the same OS).

What is the best phone for you? What features are you looking for? Also, since we're talking phones, which carrier are you on?

Personally I have a T-Mobile G2, I got it because it was (close to) stock and had a hardware keyboard. Upon using Swype enough, I don't even use the hardware keyboard that much so my next phone probably won't even have one.

If you want to look at all the spec differences, go to http://www.google.com/phone, it lists the majority of readily available phones (and tablets) running Android.

And that way, people who want the absolute best phone money can buy, will not have to make compromises or sacrifices.

That sounds like the galaxy s2. I expect the price of the X2 and the charge to drop once the bionic and SGS2 come out. There is like no way i will be able to afford the bionic or SGS2.

As soon as you buy the best something better comes out anyway.
Looks like the next Google Nexus 4G (misnamed in this poll?) will have a 720p screen, which will be interesting: http://www.bgr.com/2011/06/15/exclus...e-android-4-0/

    Re: Best android phone?

I have a Samsung Captivate, or SGH-i897. It's a handy little computer-type thing, as I have no illusions about the usability of the smartphone in general as an actual phone. Generally, I've found them to be pretty lackluster.

I've fiddled around with quite a few Android devices as they're becoming quite popular development platforms for CS classes, and I still lean toward Samsung devices. It's really a matter of preference, though; a lot of people are understandably put off by how freakishly light and delicate-seeming the Galaxy S and S2 phones are. I guess that's the take-home point of Android; You'll probably find the perfect hardware at some point.

    Also, root.

    Cheers!

    Re: Best android phone?

Having had no other smartphone before my reccomendation of the Nexus S does
not really carry any weight, but I'm happy with it, and stock android is
a nice thing if you don't want to wait to get the updates.

My dad has a HTC desire and is happy with that too.

If you want a phone to root and install mods and whatnot make sure that you
check to what level the vendor locks the bootloader and if these locks
have been circumvented. ((easy) open--locked--signed--encrypted (impossible) ...or something like that)
    Don't peach linux. Melon it!
