Post Anyone knows what's up with Ryzom opensource?

This game became open source some time ago and it was going to be ported to Linux. I can't find more news about it so I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. Is it still getting ported?

I'm pretty sure it's done. Do they just provide the single download for everyone, though? I never played it, though I remember the ruckus they managed to stir up by throwing around terms like "open source" and "free".. still have to pay for the official game, but it looks as though you should be good to go, with regard to running it on Linux.

The game client and server are both open source, the content is closed (I'm not sure if they CC'ed the art yet). They had a pre-made package for Ubuntu but now, they have a PPA. Information on installing it can be found here.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm going to check this game out as soon as I can.

Edit: It also says it's free to play on the main page. Nice!

Weird, I just added that source (ppa:kervala/ryzom) and they were added to my repositories but I get nothing when I do a search for Ryzom. Two new urls appeared in the software repositories and they're checked. I also refreshed the thing through update manager just to make sure it would be up-to-date.

It did not appear in the software center but it did appear in Synaptic. I'm downloading it right now.

its not a bad game, similar to final fantasy xi imo. But hey, it's free, so how do you complain? I'm looking forward to someone making a lan server, or a private server!
