Sun Java 1.6.0_25 on ubuntu 10.10 64 bit?

I've just upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04, and since I was in the biz of upgrading, I decided to check on my version of Java..

I'm currently running Sun Java 1.6.0_24, and Sun's java checker says there is a new version of java available, 1.6.0_25..

So I do a "sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin", and I get the message that these are already the newest version..

Does this mean that 1.6.0_25 hasn't been added to the repositories yet?

Is there a way to manually install 1.6.0_25 relatively easily?

    Thanks in advance,
    Druegan

Yupp, it might only be available (in repos) for 11.04 .

    There's a HOW-TO here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=76702
Not sure if it's up-to-date, but it shouldn't be much harder or much different.

    My personal advice:
Just stick with the version you've got, unless you really need the newest version.
You can never go wrong with the old saying... "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."

It's might not be worth the trouble to reinstall Java for such a small upgrade. You should check the changlog and weigh the difference between the two and the determine if it is worth it.BTW it's up to 1.6.0_.26 now.

I think 11.04 is on 24. Yes, only change it if you need to.

    Just follow these instructions: http://www.java.com/en/download/help...selfextracting
