There are older system that I couldn't install Ubuntu on, but PCLinuxOS worked great, for example.
I ran DSL for a while, but it just wasn't cutting it for me. Thanks for the suggestions though. I also tried Slackware, it was okay, but then I used BackTrack 4 r2, liked it and moved to Ubuntu. I like Ubuntu. Do you know if I can just add another tile or something to that menu on the Tiles of 10.04?

I don't know. Bump this question again later on this evening and see if anyone is around at that time that knows.

Got 10.10 on a 5100 for my brother, works fine. I think it's about the same age. Can't recall right off hand what the bios version is. Got 10.04 LTS on a 8200 with new bios version, had problems with flash inside the browser. It's about the same age too. I think they are both from '02, 03, somewhere in there.

I might just go to 10.10. 10.04 is feeling SO stripped down for me. Driving me crazy.

Edit: Nevermind; 10.10 uses the bloody tile thing too. I know 11.04 has "Unity" But once you install Netbook version, does it become Tile-Based as well?

You have the Unity option and the Classic Gnome option.

Bah, I can't find enough information on either out on the wide interwebs. Can you give a brief description of each? I'll leave you alone then.

Okay, I'm staying with 10.04. I switched the session to GNOME, and I LOVE it. (Did so by going into login screen settings.)

    Re: 10.04 unr

I like 10.04 myself. I have nothing against 10.10, have it on another machine. 10.04 just stuck with me.

On a machine that old the only problem I saw was when my Mom was playing Frontierville on FB, the flash just overwhelmed it, that's on the 8200 w/Pentium 4m and nvidia geforce2(antique) card. The 5100 worked fine, same processor, different gpu.

EDIT: Didn't think about trying UNR on it though. I may do that this weekend.
