    usb3 no longer working?

    Hi to every hardware crack

I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 and the USB-3 port is no longer working. It worked formerly using 10.10.

I am using an external USB 3 (1 TByte) hard drive.
The drive is still working, but not on the blue usb3 connector. So I have to go back to usb 2

Any Ideas (see lshw output below)?

PS: I installed Windows 7 on a second partition. I don't know if it was the installation of Win 7 or the upgrade to 11.04 that corrupted my USB 3 "driver".

    Code:
    >sudo lshw
    [sudo] password for phi:

    Re: usb3 no longer working?

    hi,

I have the same problem and I have found a workaround on Linux Mint 11 (Ubuntu)

Connect the USB3 HDD before booting ... that's work for me.

    Regards
    Gaetano

    Re: usb3 no longer working?

    Thanks macalga, but no!

Your "trick" does not work in my case.

The life-cd ubuntu 10.10 64-bit works out of the box (I tried ten minutes ago).

Probably the upgrade-process to 11.04 was not propper?

Here the syslog (PS: "rose" is my wifes chosen name for the machine):

    Re: usb3 no longer working?

Just to make sure, if it is the upgrade to 11.04 (all Versions 64 bit) or 11.04 itself, I burnt a life distro 11.04 some minutes ago.

The missing Driver lies in 10.10, but no longer in 11.04 (no difference, if you start 11.04 from CD, or if you upgrade from 10.10).

10.10 installed AND 10.10 Life CD both work fine with USB 3!

see also the same bug description on a german forum: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/na.../#post-2862233

Cool Re: usb3 no longer working?

    Hello,

I upgraded to 11.04 Ubuntu and now I want to install a USB 3.0 Express Card (Expresscard) from AKE. It works very fine in Windows 7 and shows that it is a Renesas Card (chip?).
Anyway the problem is that the card is sometimes working.. and sometimes not.

This is the following dmesg output:
    Code:

    Thank you very much.

    Re: usb3 no longer working?

    hi everyone,

since I am pretty new to Ubuntu i first thought it was just me being noobish. But after 2 Days of google and research, its maybe not just me. I'm having a pretty similar problem with Ubuntu server 11.10.
Aslong its plugged into an USB2 my external gets mounted and shown properly (and works fine) but as it is in a USB3 port it just disappears and is not shown with lsusb. Its not even shown in the BIOS (in USB2 it is).

    My board: Intel DH67CL
External: WD Passport essential SE 1TB

do you guys have a similar hardware?
