Granted. Compiz in 12.10 is now downgraded to 0.8.x, the source code for 0.9.x was magically erased and it would remain that way for future releases, since I'm sure that's what you wanted.
As Ubuntu switched to Wayland (which is much much better than X), Compiz was not ported, so Ubuntu gave up on Compiz and used GNOME 3. Don't worry, you can still use the old version of Ubuntu if you want without trading anything (except for that little bug that would give anyone instant control over your computer as long as they say "please", but it's a fair trade)
