While sensational, Phoronix is the only site I know of that distills the latest hardware info, and some very knowledgeable and/or prominent developers post there frequently (although on slow news days, phoronix will publish the most interesting comments in the form of articles).
Planet Gnome and Kernel Planet aggregate developer blogs which will often have various insights into current situations going on in the FOSS/Linux world.
For extra geekiness, check out the commits for your favorite program in http://cgit.freedesktop.org/ That's probably as up to date with the current Linux news as you can get.
Edit: Or commits for the repositories if they're located somewhere else. Sourceforge and Github are good places to browse.
