    max_specials 600
    text_buffer_size 4000

    Anything below these values will/may cause display problems.

    I just wanted to see if anyone spotted this very common Conky "problem".

    The above settings are paramount to Conky et al. not just my script.

    Allow me to present a small demonstration of their importance...


    I made a new theme last night. I was freezing (I'm a "desert rat") and wanted to look at something warm n' fuzzy.

    Conky was displaying fine, but as a negative example (of what NOT to do), let's lower "max_specials" to Conky's default value (512).




    Oops! Where did Conky go?!?!? Hint: Look at the last line in the dialog.

    Let's revert the "max_specials" setting back to "600".

    But, this time, let's lower the "text_buffer size" to "3072".

    Conky's default value is (256). Hello?!?!?




    Errors up the ying-yang and the Conky display is starting to truncate...

    BTW, I almost always raise n' lower this setting in multiples of "256". What I do is:

    • Lower the "text_buffer size" until Conky output gets janky
    • Raise the size until I'm NOT getting errors in CLI / display output
    • Give the value an extra "256" for good measure


    Anyway, let's go back to the original settings:

    max_specials 600
    text_buffer_size 4352





    Bingo! No errors, and everything displays correctly!

    It's time for a cig, and a cocktail, with Betty (Mad Men)... LoL!

    I could see it the moment i saw skorlowsky's comment for help, i've seen this problem popping up in the forum quite a few times now so its important that these two settings need to be strongly expressed to everyone.

    Hi, i recently applied the latest conky script on my ubuntu 12.04 and have come up with following problems:

    1) It's not showing even though i have added it as my startup application
    2) It is not showing the bargraph (Screenshot attached)
    3) It is not displayed as part of my desktop.(Sometime i can do Alt + Tab it with other process
    4) When iam starting conky manually iam getting following errors:

    sorry to ask but do you have the bargraph script placed in your .conky folder ?

    if yes it looks like your .conkyrc is calling the wrong bargraph script,
    it should be calling:

    lua_load ~/.conky/bargraph_small.lua
    lua_draw_hook_post main_bars

    and not bargraph_testing:lua

    comment out the bargraph_testing.lua

    and uncomment:
    lua_load ~/.conky/bargraph_small.lua

    that should get rid of the "calling a nil value" problem.

    tackle these 3 problems first and then we can take a look at the nVidia smi problem and your autostart problem

    I am trying your conky on Raring and I am slowly getting there but, right now I am getting this error:

    It's not looking too bad for me doing it but, is there somewhere I can get these avatars mentioned in the conky?
    I am sure once I get the BDC one it will error on the next one.
    I have been unable to locate them.
    EDIT: Also, how would I get my 2nd two cores as I have a quad core. This is what I have and I tried duplicating the last two lines and making cpu3 and cpu4 but it didn't work so well.

    Thanks paramvir! I'll try that. After messing with the weather for 3-4 hours I finally got it working.
    Finally had to tell it not to use XML ID use_xml=0 and Bam it used the location successfully.
    I'm pretty excited as I have not had weather in my conky since the weather channel dropped us.
