    Re: HOWTO: VinDSL Conky Script

Doh! Fetching prob cropped up again.

Think I found the reason. Operator error. LoL!

Conky man, as well as the Conkywx wiki, clearly states you need to use "-t" to call a template, not "-c".

I'm temporarily displaying the "Last Fetch" time on my desktop...

    ...so far, so good.

I'll watch it for a few hours, and report back.

    EDIT

Fetched every 15 minutes for the past hour.

Thought I should post the change(s) in case anyone wants to try it...

    Re: HOWTO: VinDSL Conky Script

Sorry a little lost here the -c is for the *.conf file not a template. Am I missing something?

How are you displaying the fetch times so I can follow along.

    I found it.

    Hi Bill,
I cobbled this together, for testing purposes...

    Temporarily substitute this for vindsl-weather-template

Revert back to the original template, when you're done testing.

So far "-t" is working great!

My *best guess* is, when you run Conkywx for the first time, it finds conkywx.conf. Technically speaking, it is a file BUT also a template, since we're calling it as a template string.

On subsequent "fetches", I surmise Conkywx (or Conky itself) can't find conkywx.conf file, for reasons unknown. I'm surprised it finds it on the first go-round.

Using "-t" instead of "-c" seems to tame the savage beast.

See if it works for you...

    Re: HOWTO: VinDSL Conky Script

No good here. Using the -t it appears to be using the default /etc/conkywx/conkywx.conf.

Is yours modified or is it the original? Mine is the original and getting metric temps and km/h for wind.

If I change back to -c all is will but the fetching does not seem to be working.

    Will be doing more testing.

    Ps. Change my path to
    Code:
    ${execpi 900 conkywx -c /home/bill/.conky/weather/conkywx.conf -t ${template1}|
    And now it is fetching.

    Heh! Isn't this fun?!?!?

Yes, I reverted back to the original paths, in the pre-Text.

    Code:
    #####
    ## Load Lua for shading (optional)
    ## Set the path to your script here.
    #
    #lua_load ~/.conky/draw_bg.lua
    #lua_draw_hook_pre draw_bg

    ####
    ## Load Lua for bargraphs (required)
    ## Set the path to your script here.
    #
    lua_load ~/.conky/bargraph_small.lua
    lua_draw_hook_post main_bars

    ####
    ## Define the locations of Conkywx files (required)
    ## Set the path to your .conf file & templates here.
    #
    template0 ~/.conky/weather/conkywx.conf
    template1 ~/.conky/weather/vindsl-weather-template
    template2 ~/.conky/weather/vindsl-time-template

    Re: HOWTO: VinDSL Conky Script

I really appreciate all the work in this thread. I tried to follow the first page instructions but it starts to fall apart when you get to the weather and google doesn't work anymore. I thought I would try anyway and maybe I would just get blank or null spots.
I run conky in a terminal and get this

    Code:
    Conky: invalid configuration file '/home/paulm/.conkyrc'

Conky: missing text block in configuration; exiting
    ***** Imlib2 Developer Warning ***** :
This program is calling the Imlib call:

        imlib_context_free();

        With the parameter:

        context

being NULL. Please fix your program.
Hopefully there will be an update soon with weather underground info complete.

    Re: HOWTO: VinDSL Conky Script

    @ PaulInBHC,

I started with the 2.0 version in post #4 and modified it to match the new weather method. Your error is because you do not have a section that starts with TEXT and I can get the same error by commenting out TEXT on my working .conkyrc.

    @ VinDSL,

Got it working using the shortcut paths but am using -c for the config files. I am getting a fetch every 15 minutes so seems to be working fine here.

Please check your /etc/conkywx/conkywx.conf and make sure it is not the one that is being used with the -t option. I am very sure that is true on my machine which is why I bring it up again.

    Thanks for the fun.

    Here is my desktop.

    Re: HOWTO: VinDSL Conky Script

Thanks Sparker. I think it might be that I made a folder and put the .conkyrc in it. I found a simple conky setup that I have working that the instructions said to put the .conkyrc file in the home folder. It uses NOAA locations that give me the temp here. Good enough for now.

OK people I am back - spent the day driving around the expressway that has the Formula 1 - Gautam Budh F1 circuit - wow just awesome.

    @ PaulInBHC,
If you are seeing instructions for making .fonts folder then you are playing with the stand alone version. I suggest you should use the .deb so your package manager can track the program installation. The stand alone is intended for people who are not using .deb, .rpm or Arch based systems.

    @ VinDSL,
for reading a config file -c is required and for reading a template file -t is required.

Heh! I just cannot leave things alone.

"-t" worked all day, but I installed a new kernel, and "-t" didn't survive a reboot.

So, I'm back to "-c", as you and Bill suggested.

Glad you had some time away from the keyboard. I love F1 cars! Must have been fun driving on a circuit made for them.

    Here's my "F1" ('98 Honda Civic with a '99 B16A2 swap) LoL!
