11.04 on MBP 7,1:*short battery time

    Hi,

I Installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my MacBook Pro 7,1 and configured it according to:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro7-1/Natty

Now I have the following difficulty in configuration:

    • With optimal settings (brigtness, W-LAN, bluetooth,...) the battery time shows about 10 hours in OS X if the battery is completely charged, but only about 4 hours when running Ubuntu. My be dependent on the heat control issue (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1769455) which I posted before? Or is there any other reason? How can I optimise the battery time?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Have you tried a program called powertop? It can help you find power wasters.

I think that Linux is not there yet in terms of battery usage. I have little luck getting my macbook over 4 hours of heavy use. In OS X, I can get 5-6 hours of constant use (MBP 8,1).

This is entirely conjecture, but the macbook pro is probably using the discreet graphics card 100% of the time under Ubuntu causing a shorter battery life.

There may be some useful information here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1215928

Are you aware of the power bug in kernel 2.6.38 and therefore in Ubuntu 11.04?

Use ubuntu classic and add the cpu scaling module to your panel and put it on powersave.
