    TIFF viewer in Firefox 4.0

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and I've just upgraded to Firefox 4.0. I use Ubuntu as my work environment, and a lot of my job involves looking at patents. On the US patent office website patent images are shown in TIFF format. Since I've upgraded, the TIFF viewer I had installed (Mozilla Tiff Plugin) has stopped working. I tried reinstalling it - through the .deb file - but no dice. Anyone got any suggestions on what else I could try?

okular works, if you install the extra backends (okular-extra-backends in the repositories). I confirmed it works with multi-page TIFFs, which many viewers don't.

Are you sure that's a Firefox plugin? I just installed it and it doesn't show up in the plugins list, and doesn't display the TIFF. Or is there some other way I should be using it?

There's a firefox plugin that may work for you:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/aspator/

I haven't tested it, but it claims:
"2. With USPTO patent drawings directly. No need to install TIFF viewer."

It should work with firefox 4 as well.
    Work smart, not hard.

Ha! That does it. Thanks so much. I hadn't thought of looking at Firefox addins through Firefox!

You'd use it through mozplugger, but it looks like you found another solution.

Thanks so much. I've spend hour making plugger, quicktime plag-ins and all failed, but aspator worked out of the box. Someone should tell the USPTO!

    Can this work for 12.10?

The aspator extension looks good, but the author is not verified. Any other embedded .tiff solutions available for Firefox on Ubuntu 12.04?

If a post is older than a year or so and hasn't had a new reply in that time, instead of replying to it, create a new thread. In the software world, a lot can change in a very short time, and doing things this way makes it more likely that you will find the best information. You may link to the original discussion in the new thread if you think it may be helpful.
