    Unhappy Wifi not working on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop.

    Hey I downloaded ubuntu 11.04 on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and the wifi on it doesn't work. I'm running it in parallel with windows xp and the wifi works find on windows (as it has always done) but once I boot the laptop in ubuntu, it doesn't recognise anything, no driver, nothing.

    Can anyone please help me here to get the wifi working in ubuntu on my laptop. Ubuntu is pretty much useless to me if I can't get the wifi to work on it.

    Cheers!

    Re: Wifi not working on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop.

    In the install propriety drivers thing, I found the wireless driver and I tried to activate it. It gave me an error a couple of times and then it said I need to restart the system to activate the driver. After I tried to restart the system, just after the boot screen with the 'ubuntu' logo, the screen went purple and it froze there. I waited for a good while but eventually gave up and forced my laptop to shut down by holding onto the power key. I restarted and tried to give it another go but once again ubuntu failed to boot and it just froze during boot up. I had to once again force shut down and then I went back to windows and uninstalled it.

    Is there a way I can update my wireless driver in windows so that its able to work in ubuntu??

    Also ubuntu was performing really slow on my laptop. I previously had jolicloud installed on it and it was much faster although it had the same problem that it wouldn't recognise the wifi driver and I had to use ethernet cable to work on it.

    I'm having a similar problem. I thought I fixed it last night, and actually connected via wifi, but now this morning I cannot connect. My computer recognized the network, but my wifi light stays orange no matter what. I've confirmed that the Broadcom driver is installed, and now I'm just totally stuck. I'd really appreciate some help.

    I was unable to get any output from the last command for some reason. I'm really not sure why.

    While I was doing all of this I had my Android phone plugged in ready to get online via Easytether, so that's why that's popping up in all of my networks. I hope that doesn't affect things.

    Thank you so much for your willingness to help. I'll be out of town this weekend, but when I get back Sunday night I'll be sure to check this thread again and hopefully we can work this out. Thanks again!

    Re: Wifi not working on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop.

    Hi, it looks like you do not have the drivers installed, run this command please
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter && sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
    Then disconnect the other internet device and restart your computer.
    Thank you
