    Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311] (rev 01)
This device requires proprietary firmware. Please get a temporary wired ethernet connection and open a terminal and do:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree
    sudo modprobe -r b43 && sudo modprobe b43
    phy0: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: yes
Then find the wireless switch or key combination, flip the switch to ON and you should be all set.

Red face Re: Wifi not working on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop.

So, I followed this thread and all the instructions as much as I possibly could and still could not get the WiFi working on my girlfriend's DV6000 laptop - after spending a couple days trying to figure out a solution and having zero luck even installing Windows XP & 7.

It turns out, I did not have the WiFi switch on this entire time!!!

The model I'm working on, the switch is confusing as the WiFi symbol is located on the left of the switch so you'd think if the switch was in the left position it would turn on. Turns out the switch needs to be in the right position to turn on.

I feel a little stupid but I'm happy it's working now. I recommend anyone with the same problem double check that the switch is in the "On" position (right).

We're happy it's working by whatever means. Don't be too embarrassed; I've been there, too.

I'm also having a similar problem with my wireless and ethernet, in a few words I can't connect and download the drivers.

I'm running it in parallel with windows xp and the wifi works find on windows.

    Any suggestions?

Would you please start a new thread and post your device details?
    Code:
    lspci -nn | grep -e 0200 -e 0280
This thread is getting a bit cumbersome.

I think if you see post #132 above, you'll see the same device and I recommend the same solution.
