weird hang on shutdown?

sometimes while shutting down my machine (natty), the shutdown hangs and gives the attached screen. I have no idea what this means. This screen usually comes up if I had been fiddling with the disk partitions or fdisk. What is it? how do i stop it?

Looks like a kernel panic. How to stop it? -- Stop "fiddling" with partitions and fdisk (as it only does it when you fiddle)
