Okay, I've been wondering this for awhile on my laptop - there's no /var/log/messages. rsyslog seems to restart fine, but still no messages log.
Okay, so that laptop was given a beta Natty, so I kinda attributed it to that and let it be as I'm already planning to do a clean install there shortly. But I just installed Lubuntu Natty on my desktop computer, and it's the same darn thing.
What gives? Is this by design? I find it hard to believe that you'd just ditch /var/log/messages
Is this another 2.6.38 quirk per chance? Anyone else missing their messages log?
