[SOLVED] No DVD playback on Daru1

    Hello,

We have a Daru1 (model Z35F) that is running Ubuntu Lucid (10.04 LTS). It works well except for DVD playback. The drive appears to work as it can read CDRom disks. Codecs for DVD playback is installed (libdvdcss2) is installed.

The DVD Writer Model is TS-L632D/ASCF

When I try to play DVD disk, nothing happens. The system will not mount the DVD disk (it will mount CDRom disks). I have tried several DVD disks, which do work in other desktops with Lucid, just not on the Daru1.

Any thoughts or suggestions (software configuration or hardware replacement) will be appreciated.

Re: No DVD playback on Daru1

This was resolved by replacing the original DVD drive. Besides the lack of mounting a DVD disk, The Daru1 is about 3 years old (could be 4?) now and still going strong. The only issue we have had is the 'n' key on the keyboard is hard to press down, but it is still functional. The fan can get a little loud, but this is not a big deal. For a 13 inch screen, it is surprisingly light weight. Easily serviceable. Overall, a good performer.
